The Shawnee Wine Trail is one of the most diverse and beautiful wine trails around located just 2 hours southeast of St. Louis, MO. It is composed of 11 wineries along a 40 mile trail. It is the perfect getaway for a weekend of indulgence! However, located in Jackson County, Illinois we are blessed with two very unique spots, Kite Hill Vineyard and Pomona Winery. Be sure to check out both Kite Hill and Pomona for the Mid Summer Picnic Pairings. This event will occur August 4-5th weekend. Tickets are $35 per person which includes one sample of wine and a sample dish that is chosen to pair perfectly with the selected wine at each of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail wineries, one souvenir Shawnee Hills Wine Trail logo wine glass and entry into a drawing for fabulous prizes along the trail.

Kite Hill Vineyard
Kite Hill Vineyards is located only ten minutes from Southern Illinois University. The beautiful landscapes and views create a picturesque backdrop to enjoy your wine or wine slushie. Every Wednesday you can enjoy Wine Down Wednesday with half price glasses of wine from 3-7pm. Grab your friends and make it a happy hour! You can always bring your own snacks to share or enjoy some of the munchies in their beverage cooler. Be sure to always plan ahead and have designated sober driver!

Pomona Winery
Pomona Winery became a licensed establishment in 1991 and at that time was only the 6th winery in the state of Illinois. This winery has been making wines for 25 years. In 1995 Pomona teamed up with two other winerys to start the create of the Shawnee Wine Trail which has grown significantly over the last 20 years. Pomona Winery is known for creating wines that are made from locally grown fruits other than grapes. I find this extroidinary that they are able to offer seven table wines and two dessert wines. My favorite thing about my experienecs at Pomona WInery is the story that they tell. Every aspect of the winery has an interesting fact whether its the same bricks that line the panama canal or that the owners built the buidling out of all recycled matierals. You will not be disappointed in your experience. The tasting they offer is less than $10 per person and they take you through a guide tasting that offers pairings of food that you can cook at home. The wines have all received multiple awars even on the national and international level.
